James Brooke is a former soldier in the Bengal Army and sails to Borneo, which is still under the control of the Bruneian Sultanate in 1839. He helps the Sultan`s governor to put down a local rebellion and eventually took over as governor - and eventually became the Rajah of Sarawak in his own private kingdom. Brooke`s dynasty lasted three generations and spanned a century.
